The Chief Imam of Oro Kingdom, Dr. Sanusi Taofeeq Olamilekan Alaago, has dismissed claims circulating on social media that the Kwara State High Court halted this year’s Oro Day celebration.

Dr. Sanusi clarified that the court issued no order suspending the event, explaining that the matter was only adjourned to December 22 for ruling.

He made this known while reacting to what he called deliberately fabricated misinformation being circulated on Facebook and other platforms by individuals he described as “agents of confusion” from the Otun Oro community.

The Chief Imam, who was present in court alongside other representatives, said the judge merely took submissions from the claimant’s counsel, the defence team, and the state’s legal representative before adjourning the case. At no point, he stressed, did the court direct the stoppage of the annual festival.

He described the misrepresentation of court proceedings as unethical and illegal, warning that those spreading such falsehood may face legal action.

The Chief Imam urged them to retract their misleading posts or be prepared to defend their claims before the law.

Assuring sons and daughters of Oro Kingdom that there is no cause for alarm, Dr. Sanusi encouraged them to continue preparations for this year’s Oro Day celebration.

He added that “no darkness shall overcome the light,” insisting that the communities that make up the Ekun Mesan remain united, despite attempts by a few individuals to sow discord for selfish interests.

The Chief Imam extended warm invitations to all invited guests at home and abroad including cultural ambassadors, captains of industry, and dignitaries to join the kingdom for the celebration on December 24.

Also reacting to the misinformation, a youth leader in Oro Kingdom, Adefila John Olalekan, condemned the deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

He said the false claims were aimed at creating tension and undermining the efforts of traditional and religious leaders who have worked tirelessly to sustain peace in the kingdom.

Adefila urged youths to remain vigilant and avoid being used as instruments for spreading misinformation, noting that the strength of Oro Kingdom lies in the unity of its people.

He encouraged young people to verify information from credible sources before sharing, stressing that they must stand as ambassadors of truth and development.
