A swift joint operation by police operatives and local vigilantes in Ilorin South Local Government Area has foiled an assassination attempt and armed robbery.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said in a statement that at about 9:00 a.m. on August 10, 2025, operatives of the Kwara State Police Command, acting on credible intelligence from community security sources, responded to a robbery incident at Opeyewa Hostel in the Eleko area of Ilorin.

“Prompt deployment and coordinated action between police operatives and local vigilantes led to the arrest of two male suspects — Ishola Adeyemi and Ismail Rafiu, both from Ibadan, Oyo State,” the statement read.

Items recovered from the suspects include eleven iPhones, N30,500 cash, a WiFi device, two new long cutlasses, two pairs of slippers, and other personal effects.

During preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed they were invited to Ilorin by one Qudus, alias Tiny, a member of the Eye Cult Fraternity, to assassinate a rival cultist. When the attempt failed, they turned to robbing student hostels in the area.

The suspects and the recovered items have been transferred to the Anti-Robbery Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at the State Headquarters, Ilorin, for further investigation and prosecution.

Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo commended the synergy between community security structures and law enforcement, which ensured the suspects’ swift arrest.

The Command reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards violent crimes and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies without delay.
