A faith-based Islamic organisation, the Igbomina/Ekiti Muslim Forum (IEMF), has called on Nigerians to use the holy month of Ramadan to seek divine intervention over the persistent insecurity confronting the nation.
The President of the Forum, Alhaji Nasiru Ibrahim, made the call in Ilorin on Monday on the sidelines of the 2026 Annual Ramadan Lecture themed: “Igbomina/Ekiti Muslims and National Security.”
Alhaji Ibrahim described security as a moral obligation, urging Muslims and other Nigerians to intensify prayers and embrace peace-building efforts, especially amid growing concerns over attacks on farms, highways and forest communities in Igbomina land.
He stressed the need for improved security measures across the country, noting that rising insecurity remains a major challenge.
“The lessons of Ramadan must abide with us always. We should work towards what is prescribed by Allah,” he said, while also urging Muslims to dedicate their lives to righteousness and God-consciousness.
In his lecture, the Chief Missioner of the Forum, Alhaji Salaudeen AbdulQuadri, called on Nigerians to embrace repentance and offer fervent prayers for national security during the sacred month.
“We have to be dedicated to Allah, read the Qur’an and re-dedicate ourselves to the worship of Almighty Allah. You must work first and pray for divine intervention,” he said.
Alhaji AbdulQuadri, who is also the Chief Imam of Olanrewaju Mosque, described the Igbomina/Ekiti community as closely knit and traditionally agrarian, but lamented that insecurity has hindered farmers from accessing their farmlands.
He emphasised that Islam strongly condemns acts of insecurity and disunity, urging authorities and citizens alike to take proactive steps to safeguard the nation’s unity.
Highlighting the significance of Ramadan, the cleric described the month as a period of spiritual reflection and renewal.
“Islam is a complete way of life that uses Ramadan to rejuvenate individuals and reform society,” he said.
He further cautioned adherents to avoid anger, violence and all forms of misconduct during the holy month, warning that those who fail to abandon evil deeds risk losing Allah’s mercy.
Alhaji AbdulQuadri also commended mothers for their dedication to family life and described fasting as a blessing for humanity and a period of spiritual and moral purification.
