A statewide outreach programme has been launched by the Office of the First Lady of Kwara State, Professor Olufolake Abdulrazaq to eradicate Female Genital Mutilation, FGM and circumcision.

The programme, titled “Setup the Pace: Straightening Alliances and Building Movements to End FGM,” is a collaborative effort with the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Women Affairs.

According to the First Lady, the outreach programme seeks to raise awareness about the dangers of FGM and promote a safer, healthier future for girls and women in Kwara State.

Professor Olufolake Abdulrazaq noted that FGM is a serious human rights issue affecting millions of girls and women worldwide, causing physical and emotional harm, and even death.

She stated that despite being against the law and a violation of human rights, the practice is still prevalent in some parts of Nigeria, including Kwara State.

The First Lady emphasized that FGM is not a requirement in any religion and warned sternly against the practice.

The programme is part of the efforts of the wife of Kwara State Governor to improve the health, well-being, and empowerment of girls and women in the State.
