Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Islamic scholars and other dignitaries have attended the burial of the late Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Saliu.
Thousands of Muslim faithful thronged Ilorin on Tuesday to pay their last respects to the revered Islamic scholar, who passed away on Monday at the age of seventy-five.
The funeral prayer was led by the Imam Imale of Ilorin, Sheikh Abdullahi Abdulhameed, at the forecourt of the palace of the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman, Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Dr. Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
Speaking at the event, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq described the late Chief Imam as an eminent global Islamic scholar and a man of impeccable character, whose life was marked by integrity, humility and service to humanity.

The Governor, who was represented by his Senior Adviser and Counsellor, Alhaji Sa’adu Salau, said the late cleric was deeply committed to peaceful coexistence among Muslims and non-Muslims, and was widely respected for his generosity and passion for unity within the Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State at large.
Governor AbdulRazaq noted that Sheikh Muhammad Bashir inspired many young people to pursue Islamic scholarship, education and peaceful community living, adding that his death is a great loss to the Muslim Ummah and the entire people of Ilorin.
The Governor prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased and condoled with the Emir of Ilorin, members of the Council of Ulama, the immediate family of the late Chief Imam, and the people of Kwara State.
The late Sheikh Muhammad Bashir Saliu was aged seventy-five.
