Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has described vocational and technical education as a critical pillar of human capital development.

Governor AbdulRazaq stated this at the sixth graduation ceremony of the International Vocational, Technical and Entrepreneurship College, IVTEC, Ajase-Ipo, where five hundred and six trainees graduated.

Four hundred and forty-one of the graduants were sponsored by the Kwara State Government under the Youth Empowerment and Employment Generation Scheme, YEEGS.

Represented by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, Governor AbdulRazaq said his administration remains committed to strengthening vocational institutions to provide practical, industry-relevant skills as a complement to conventional tertiary education.

He disclosed that about two thousand youths drawn from the sixteen local government areas of the state have been trained under the scheme since 2021, with more than half of the current graduates receiving state-funded start-up support.

The Governor urged the graduants to see themselves as job creators and contributors to economic development.

In his remarks, the Rector of the College, Dr Yaru Salihu, commended the state government for sustained support, noting that the programme is reducing youth unemployment and promoting self-reliance.
