No fewer than 400 people in Kwara State have been screened for kidney diseases as part of activities to mark this year’s World Kidney Day in the State.

Speaking at the event Chief Medical Director, CMD, Kwara State University Teaching Hospital, Dr. AbdulKadir Ahmed, said the event which was done in collaboration with Renal Study Group of University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, aimed to raise awareness about kidney health, and also advocate preventive measures against kidney diseases for healthy living.

Dr. Ahmed underscored the vital role of early detection and intervention in preventing kidney disease and its severe complications.

He stated that kidney disease is a growing global health problem that affects millions of people, saying that 10 per cent of the world’s population is affected by chronic kidney disease with millions of people dying every year because of lack of access to affordable treatment.

The Chief Medical Director however, emphasised the readiness of the present administration under the leadership of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to engage in various programmes that would increase sensitization and allow early detection for proper care and support.

Dr Ahmed also reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to providing adequate, high-quality and affordable healthcare services to residents.
