Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has chaired a security council meeting to review fresh strategies aimed at boosting public safety and tackling the activities of organised kidnapping gangs in the state.
The meeting brought together security commanders and top government officials who briefed the Governor on developments following Tuesday’s attack on Eruku community in Ekiti Local Government Area.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi said the council received detailed intelligence on recent incidents, including efforts to track down the perpetrators and rescue abducted victims.

He said the council commended the intensified security operations, especially air interdictions that have dislodged kidnappers from several hideouts in parts of Ifelodun Local Government.
Mr Adekimi announced that, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive, the Inspector General of Police has deployed four tactical units to Kwara — including the Special Weapons and Tactics Team, Intelligence Response Team, Special Tactical Squad, and Special Intervention Squad — to neutralise emerging threats.
The Police and DSS also reported several arrests, including food and fuel suppliers linked to the criminals, as well as a man from Makurdi who confessed to repairing weapons for the kidnappers.

Mr Ojo Adekimi also noted that joint security patrols have been approved across the state as the Yuletide season approaches, alongside increased surveillance around vulnerable areas.
He expressed concern over the harmful effects of unregulated social media commentary on security matters, warning that the spread of sensitive information, including ransom demands, could endanger citizens. The council therefore called for restraint and responsible communication.
The meeting observed a minute of silence in honour of the victims of the Eruku church attack and extended sympathies to their families and the entire community.
