Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has called for increased security deployments to flush out criminals behind Sunday’s deadly attacks in parts of the state.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the Governor said the incidents at Oke-Ode and surrounding areas highlight the urgent need for more military presence in Kwara South and Kwara North.
Governor AbdulRazaq mourned the deaths of residents and forest guards who, out of patriotism and love for their communities, resisted the attackers but paid the supreme price.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, describing their sacrifices as heroic.
While commending the security agencies for their efforts, the Governor acknowledged that more work still needs to be done to fully restore peace.
He particularly praised the courage of the forest guards and local hunters who lost five men during the clash but also succeeded in neutralising several of the attackers, assuring that their bravery will never be forgotten.
Governor AbdulRazaq urged residents to remain calm and avoid turning against one another despite the growing tension.
Meanwhile, the Army Headquarters has ordered the General Officer Commanding, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Ibadan, to immediately relocate to Kwara to coordinate and strengthen the military’s response to the crisis.
