The Kwara State House of Assembly has suspended Hon. Saba Yisa Gideon, the lawmaker representing Edu State Constituency, for three months over contempt of the House and breach of legislative privilege.
The suspension followed findings that the lawmaker recorded a closed-door meeting of the Assembly and shared the audio with an unauthorised person.
During deliberations on the matter, Hon. Gideon reportedly confessed to the act.

The motion, moved without notice by the Leader of the House, Alhaji Abdulkadir Magaji, was anchored on Order 4, Rule 14 of the House Rules on Privileges and Section 14(2) of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act, 2017.
Contributing to the debate were lawmakers including Alhaji Ganiyu Folabi Salaudeen (Omupo), Alhaji Musa Kareem (Patigi), Alhaji Owolabi Rasaq (Shaare/Oke-Ode), Alhaji Abdullahi Halidu Danbaba (Kaiama/Kemanji/Wajibe) and Alhaji Oniboki Yunusa (Afon).
In its resolution, the House held that the unauthorised recording was “capable of bringing the legislative institution into disrepute,” describing the action as contemptuous and a clear breach of privilege.
Hon. Gideon was further directed to tender a formal written apology to the House within the period of his suspension.
The suspension takes immediate effect.
Meanwhile, the Speaker read a message from Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, notifying the House of his intention to present the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the Assembly for legislative consideration on Monday, December 22, 2025.
The Speaker subsequently directed the Clerk of the House to put all necessary arrangements in place to ensure a hitch-free reception of the Governor for the budget presentation.
