The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kwara Area Command, Ilorin, has reiterated its commitment to combating smuggling activities across border communities within the state.
The Kwara State Area Comptroller, Controller Nanjam Ogundeyi, made this known during a press briefing held at the Command’s headquarters in Ilorin.

He disclosed that the Command had successfully intercepted and seized various consignments of prohibited and improperly imported goods.
According to him, the seizures were achieved through diligent patrols, credible intelligence gathering, and sustained enforcement operations across the Command’s area of responsibility.

Controller Ogundeyi listed the seized items to include 450 bags of foreign rice, three exotic SUVs, and several other prohibited items, with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦1,219,209,369.
“The total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of the seizures is One Billion, Two Hundred and Nineteen Million, Two Hundred and Nine Thousand, Three Hundred and Sixty-Nine Naira (₦1,219,209,369),” he stated.

He noted that the seizures clearly demonstrate that smuggling activities will not be tolerated under his leadership, stressing that anyone found engaging in such illegal acts would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The Comptroller also urged stakeholders and members of the public to continue supporting the Nigeria Customs Service by providing timely and credible information. He emphasized that the Service is not an enemy of the people but remains committed to securing the nation’s borders and strengthening the economy.
