The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed an armed robbery and homicide incident that occurred on the Rore–Arandun highway in Irepodun Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the attack happened around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday when a group of hoodlums stormed the residence of a businessman, Mr. Oyetoyan Dare.

During the incident, the assailants shot dead a private security guard, forty–year–old Wale Ajiboye, while he tried to resist their entry.

In a related development, the same gang reportedly ambushed a vehicle transporting farm produce from Ora in Osun State. The driver, thirty–eight–year–old Taiye Yebi, was shot dead, while a passenger sustained minor injuries.

Police operatives recovered both expended and live ammunition at the scene.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital morgue as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, has ordered a discreet probe and reinforced patrols in the area to forestall a recurrence.

The Command has assured residents that normalcy has been restored and efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrators.
