The Kwara State Police Command has debunked a viral video alleging the unlawful detention of a minor in Arandun community, Irepodun Local Government Area, describing the claim as misleading and unfounded.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Command clarified that the incident stemmed from a reported case of housebreaking and theft at the Arandun Police Division on April 30, 2026, at about 4:00 p.m.
The statement identified the prime suspect as 19-year-old Timothy Aransiola, who had been on the division’s watchlist and fled shortly after the incident was reported.
According to the police, intelligence later revealed that the suspect was being harboured and assisted to evade arrest by his sister, Esther Aransiola, aged 16.
She was subsequently taken into custody on May 1, 2026, for allegedly aiding and abetting a suspect with intent to obstruct lawful arrest.
The Command explained that the minor was duly cautioned and her statement recorded in accordance with standard procedures before she was released to her guardian on bond.
The police stressed that the minor was not unlawfully detained, insisting that the claims circulating in the viral video were false and capable of misleading the public.
Efforts, the statement added, are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and bring him to justice.
The Command urged members of the public to disregard unverified information and refrain from spreading content that could incite unnecessary tension, while reaffirming its commitment to the rule of law, protection of citizens’ rights, and transparency in its operations.
