Kwara State Polytechnic Ilorin, in collaboration with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), has officially launched the Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA) programme aimed at training, certifying, and empowering artisans across various trades to meet international standards.
The launch, held at the institution’s mini campus, is part of a Federal Government initiative designed to uplift artisans and drive economic growth through skill development.
In an opening remark, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, attributed the successful rollout of the programme to the unwavering commitment of the Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, whom he described as a strong advocate of vocational education.
Dr. Mohammed acknowledged the vital role of ITF in actualizing the initiative, stressing that the programme goes beyond training and paper qualifications.
He said the Skill-Up Artisans Programme offers participants a remarkable opportunity to sharpen their skills, boost employability, and deliver services that meet global standards.
Earlier, the Director of the Institute of Skills Acquisition, Engr. Elizabeth Onipede praised the Polytechnic Management for driving the project to reality.
She stressed that the programme would enhance professionalism and quality service in the artisan sector.
The ITF Head of Training, Ilorin Area Office, Mr. AbdulRasaq Lawal, explained that the SUPA initiative is part of a wider national strategy to strengthen technical skills, create jobs, and foster economic empowerment.
Mr. Lawal added that by aligning with international standards and adopting technology-driven training, the initiative is poised to elevate craftsmanship, promote industry standards, and drive professional excellence across multiple sectors.
