
The Magistrate Court Establishment Bill 2025 has scaled through second reading in the Kwara State House of Assembly.
Presenting the bill, House Leader, Oba Magaji, highlighted the roles of a magistrate courts in providing accessible justice for everyday legal issues.
Alhaji Oba Mogaji urged his colleagues to support the bill in order to ensure it accelerated passage and speedy justice delivery in the state.
Other Lawmakers, who spoke in support of the bill, said when passed, would establish the Magistrate Courts and create employment of more magistrates in the state.
They noted that the bill’s passage would ensure adequate remuneration and a conducive working environment for the magistrates.
The legislators also described the bill as important and long overdue, given the critical roles that Magistrate Courts played in handling minor criminal cases, civil cases and preliminary hearings for more serious cases.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House, Mr. Yakubu Saliu Danladi who directed the Clerk, Alhaji Ahmed Olayiwola to read the bill for second time to pass Second Reading referred it to Committee on Etiquettes and Privileges to conduct a public hearing and report back to the House for further review.
