
At least 3000 farmers are to benefit from Kwara State Government Agricultural inputs intervention distributed to farmers at Banni Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony, the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Mrs Oloruntoyosi Thomas explained that the agricultural initiative is being carried out by the ministry in partnership with Arzikin Noma and an international partner, IDH.
Mrs Thomas noted that the initiative would drive food sufficiency and promote livestock development.
She pointed out that the project was focusing on cultivating sorghum and soyabean to boost grain production for animal feed.
The Commissioner stressed that it would also check the perennial conflicts between farmers and herders in the state.
She commended the development partners for coming on board, and described the partnership as timely and purposeful.
The Kwara state Commissioner for Transport, Mr Aliyu Sabi, said the initiative would promote peace between farmers and herders in the locality.
Mr Aliu Sabi urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the items to achieve the desired results.
In an address, the Chief Executive officer of Arzikin Noma, Mr Adesola Adeoluwa, hinted that the project was aimed at ensuring that farmers have access to agro-chemical, quality seedlings, training and other necessary support.
Mr Adesola Adeoluwa gave the assurance that the farmers will not have problems with selling of their products, promising that off-takers were already on ground to buy from them after the harvest.
Items distributed included, 18,000 bags of fertilizer, 6,000 liters each of 3 different chemicals, 75MT of sorghum seed, and 100MT of soya seed.
