Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.

The Association of Resident Doctors-Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, ARD-LTH, Ogbomoso has appealed to Gov. Seyi Makinde to direct relevant authorities to implement payment of the new minimum wage to its members.

In a statement jointly signed by the President of the Association, Dr. Adedokun Ishola and Dr. Mustapha Al-halim, the General Secretary, the doctors explained that “the teaching hospital has not benefited from the new minimum wage despite implementation for other health workers in the state”.

They also called for the prompt approval of the Medical Residency Training Act/Fund (MRTA/F) for Resident Doctors.

“We believe that the implementation of the above requests is a critical step towards improving the welfare and living standards of the good people of Oyo State.

“We urge your administration to take this matter seriously and take immediate action to address our concerns,” they said.

The Association commended Governor Makinde for sustaining the wage award to the State civil servants, and maintaining prompt payment of salaries.

They also commended the governor for being among the first to adopt the N80,000 minimum wage across the country and also payment of 13th month salary.

“We appreciate the ongoing effort to adopt MRTA/F in the State.

“But more effort is needed to fast-track implementation, as this will further attract more Doctors to the state for specialist training and to render services,” they said.
