Professor Olubunmi Abayomi Omotesho, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) at the University of Ilorin, has announced that new students will resume for the 2024/2025 academic session in October. This merge will combine students admitted for the 2023/2024 session and those who participated in the recent 2024/2025 Post-UTME exercise.
Prof. Omotesho explained that the October resumption date will be reviewed by the Committee of Provosts and Deans and then submitted to the Senate for approval. He attributed the merger to the COVID-19 pandemic and ASUU strike, which caused the university to fall behind schedule.
The university initially considered running two academic sessions concurrently but faced logistical challenges. After consultations, the management decided to cancel the 2023/2024 session and merge the two sets of JAMB candidates to streamline the academic calendar. This will allow the new session to begin in October and restore the traditional academic cycle.
