The prices of some major food items has continue to soar even as the Ramadan fast begins in less than three days.

Our Correspondent, Muinat Usman paid a visit to Yoruba Road market, Oja oba, Oja Tuntun and the popular Ipata market in Ilorin, Kwara State to ascertain the prices of some common food items used during the month of Ramadan.

It was observed that the Traders were eager to sell but the buyers were complaining about the hike in prices of goods.

At the provision section at Ipata, trading activity there was low.

This was attributed to the over-the-board increase in prices of provisions such as evaporated milk and noodles.

It was noticed that some of the popular evaporated tin milk have disappeared from the market stands due to low patronage.

At Yoruba Road, market there was a variety of evaporated tin milk – from the popular, to the less popular, all with different price tags.

One of the traders expressed hope that the prices would soon reduce after the commencement of the Ramadan fast.

At the food items section ,one of the traders said the rate at which prices of beans is increased is alarming.

According to her, within one week, additional 6000 naira was added to a bag of beans.

At most of the markets visited, a tray of evaporated tin milk sells for 16 000.
A bag of sugar goes for 86000, while eight cups of sugar sells for 2600.

A paint rubber of honey beans goes for 5800, while brown beans sells for 4500.

White beans is 4000 per paint rubber.

On a cheery note, the price of rice is beginning to nosedive as a bag of rice which used to sell for seventy-five thousand naira now goes for seventy thousand naira.

A paint rubber of garri goes for 2500, while that of ijebu garri goes for 3600 naira.

A bag of elubo sells for 120 thousand naira.
