The Kwara State Police Command has arrested six suspected kidnappers and recovered firearms following a coordinated, intelligence-led operation in Baruten Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Command said the case originated from a kidnapping incident reported on April 23, 2026, at about 12:30 a.m., involving one Isaq J. of Boriya Village via Okuta.
According to the statement, the suspects demanded a ransom of ₦50 million.
Upon receiving the report, police operatives launched a manhunt and mounted sustained operational pressure on the gang, leading to the safe release of the victim.
The Command disclosed that on April 30, 2026, at about 8:15 p.m., one Mohammed Shede of Boriya Village was arrested in connection with the crime.

During interrogation, he reportedly confessed to providing intelligence to members of the gang identified as “Smalley” and “Borugujo,” which facilitated the tracking and abduction of the victim at his farm.
Further investigations led to the arrest of four additional suspects—Abubakar Aliu, identified as the gang’s armourer; Abu Sonkpia; Saliu Yakubu; and Sanni Sakariyau—all from the same community.

The suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the kidnapping, as well as an armed robbery incident involving one Muhammed Manu.
The Police Command urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to support ongoing security operations across the state.
