VC Al-Hikmah University Advocates Synergy Among Security Agencies To Reduce Violence
The need for Security Personnel, Human Resources Managers and Peace builders to prioritize Alternative Dispute Resolution, ADR, and to incorporate traditional and modern techniques of peace building has been re-emphasized.
The Vice Chancellor, Al-hikmah University, Ilorin, Prof. Noah Yusuf made the call at the opening ceremony of a 3-day capacity building workshop organised by the Centre for Peace and Security Studies of the institution.
Prof. Noah Yusuf advocated for robust synergy among security agencies to reduce violence and insecurity in Nigeria.
The workshop tagged “Peace and Conflict Management Capacity Building Retreat” 3rd of its kind was initiated by Professor Noah on his assumption to the institution as Vice-Chancellor, designed for post-graduate students with five different courses.
Also, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr. Sikiru Nurudeen who referenced the inauguration speech of United States President, Donald Trump, maintained that if America should be great again, it should not be at the detriment of other nations of the world, hence the need to prioritize peaceful relationships.
Earlier, in his speech, the acting Director of the Centre, Abdulazeez Adekola, stated that the centre has been able to make impact in fostering harmonious relationships in some disputed communities and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s peaceful co-existence.
Dr. Adekola added that as a way of strengthening the centre’s relationship, partnership and collaboration with Nigerian Security Agencies, the centre has almost completed the partnership arrangement with the Nigeria Police to serve as a resource institution for Police Intelligent College, located in Kwara State.
The partnership is to train its personnel on non-kinetic approach to conflict and security management.
Present at the opening ceremony of the 3 – day Capacity building retreat were Head of Security Agencies in Kwara State, including the Commander of Air Force, Air Commandor Ibrahim Musa, State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Commission, NSCDC, Commander NDLEA, and Comptroller of Correctional Service and Management Staff of Al-hikmah University among others.
