The need to make religious studies compulsory in schools across the country have been advocated.

A guest lecturer at a townhall engagement in Ilorin on “Combating Moral Decadence in the Emirate Council”, organized by the National Orientation Agency, NOA and Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressives Union, IEDPU, Dr Yusuf Badmus, stated this.

Earlier, the representative of the Governor of Kwara State, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, who said that Ilorin has a rich culture and faith, urged youths to be steadfast in their academics and be good ambassadors of the Emirate through their character.

The Director-General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa Only, represented by the Director, Rights, Abuse and Narcotics, NOA Headquarters, Abuja, Mrs Theresa Maduekwe, emphasized that the agency is passionate about moral rejuvenation and would continue to collaborate with stakeholders to instill moral values in the younger generation.

The National President of IEDPU, Alhaji Abdulmumin Ayo Abdulmalik called for concerted efforts to guide the younger generation aright.

Highpoint of the event was a drama presentation by the Theatre for Development Unit of NOA Kwara, which brought to the fore the importance of parenting in child upbringing.

Meanwhile, forty youths in Ilorin, Kwara State, have been empowered with skills, financial assistance, and startup kits to make descent livelihood as well as contribute positively to societal development.

This followed a skill acquisition programme facilitated by the National Orientation Agency, NOA, which held at the Banquet Hall, Ilorin.

Participants at the programme were trained in various skills including soap making, perfume production, barbing and bleach production.

In a remark, at the event, NOA Director General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, represented by Mrs Theresa Maduekwe, Director Rights, Drugs and Narcotics, expressed confidence that the beneficiaries would not only be financially independent but also become employers of labour.

In a reaction, the first Vice President of IEDPU, Alhaji Abdulrauf Issa-Onilu, who monitored the exercise, described the programme as a complete package and advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the skills acquired and tools given to be self reliant.
