A major fire disaster was yesterday averted by men of the Kwara State Fire Service, when a tanker carrying petrol fell along the Asa Dam highway, by Coca-cola junction, Ilorin, spilling its content.

The incident which occurred around One o’clock in the afternoon, led to heavy traffic along the axis posing serious challenge to road users and residents of the area.

Men of the State Fire Service were thereafter joined by their Federal counterpart, the Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Police Force and the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority to prevent hijack of the situation by hoodlums and fire outbreak.

According to the Spokesperson of the State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem, the firefighters swung into action following a distress call that a tanker carrying fifty thousand litres of petrol had fallen on the highway.

Mr Hakeem advised tanker drivers carrying petroleum products and road users to always maintain safe practices while on the wheel.
