A veteran journalist and retired senior official of the Federal Ministry of Information, Hajia Biliqis Modupe Oladimeji, has emerged as the new Amirah of the Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Kwara State Chapter.
She was selected through a consensus arrangement during the 40th Anniversary and Stepdown of the National Conference of FOMWAN held in Offa, Kwara State.
Hajia Biliqis will lead the new executive team alongside Hajia Rukayat Adegboyega Adeagbo, who assumes office as State Secretary.
Other members of the newly inaugurated executive include: Alhaja Shifau Bint Saruq – Naibah Amirah, Hajia Fatimah Muhammed – Assistant Secretary I, Barakat Tomori – Assistant Secretary II, Dr. Saadat Abdulkadri – Public Relations Officer, Ramat Ayo Ismail – Assistant PRO, Hajia Fatimah Abolore Jimih – Treasurer, Hajia Biliqis Mahmud – Financial Secretary, Hajia Silifat Ishola – Auditor, Hajia Raliat Abdullah – Dawah Officer I, Hajia Lateefah Aromaradu – Dawah Officer II, Barr. Ruqayyah Abdulaziz – Legal Officer, Hajia Nimat Labaika – Ex-Officio I, and Hajia Aminat Abdulkadir – Ex-Officio II.
Inaugurating the new executive, a member of the National Board of Trustees, Hajia Raliat Sanni, charged them to embrace transparency, good governance, unity, and cooperation.
She urged them to work closely with all women groups and local government chapters to meet FOMWAN’s objectives.
Hajia Sanni emphasised the need for exemplary leadership grounded in the teachings of the Qur’an and Hadith, effective communication, and the promotion of peaceful coexistence through justice, mutual respect, and avoidance of divisive tendencies.
In her goodwill message, the Kwara South Zonal Coordinator, Hajia Kuburah Bello, cautioned the new leaders against hypocrisy and betrayal of trust. She urged them to uphold the legacies of FOMWAN’s founding mothers and prioritise collaboration to achieve the association’s goals.
Bello encouraged the executive to sustain ongoing programmes and consult past leaders for guidance and continuity.
Earlier, the outgoing Amirah, Hajia Nimat Oluwatoyin Laibaka, expressed appreciation to members for their support throughout her tenure.
She highlighted achievements recorded in education, health, humanitarian services, and women empowerment, noting that teamwork, dedication, and innovation strengthened the association.
She also advised the new leadership to explore more avenues for internal revenue generation, recommending the establishment of a resource mobilisation committee.
In her acceptance speech, the new Amirah, Hajia Biliqis Modupe Oladimeji, expressed gratitude to the Board of Advisers and members across the state.
She pledged to work with the executive and all stakeholders across the three senatorial districts to expand FOMWAN’s impact at both state and national levels.
“We are honoured to lead this great organisation at this critical juncture.
We will build on the foundations laid by our predecessors and remain committed to FOMWAN’s vision of promoting the leadership and welfare of Muslim women,” she said.
She appealed for continuous support from members to strengthen the association’s mission and sustain its legacy.
